Program Description:
The Emerging Leaders program is the American Leadership Institute's flagship leadership experience for students ages 15–18. Designed for high school sophomores through seniors, the program introduces young people to the timeless principles of leadership while helping them discover their unique strengths, purpose, and potential.
Unlike traditional leadership programs that focus primarily on positions or titles, Emerging Leaders teaches that leadership begins with character. Participants learn that true leadership is demonstrated through integrity, responsibility, service, and the ability to positively influence others.
Over two years, students participate in immersive classroom learning, experiential activities, mentorship, leadership projects, and visits with business, government, nonprofit, and community leaders. The curriculum intentionally bridges the private and public sectors, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of how organizations, institutions, and communities work together to strengthen America.
Emerging Leaders is more than a leadership class—it is the foundation upon which a lifetime of leadership is built.

Program Philosophy:
Leadership begins long before someone earns a title.
It begins with the choices we make, the character we develop, and the responsibility we accept.
The Emerging Leaders program exists because the American Leadership Institute believes that the formative years between fifteen and eighteen represent one of the greatest opportunities to shape the future of our communities and our nation.
During these years, students begin defining who they are, what they believe, and the kind of impact they hope to make in the world. The Institute intentionally invests in this stage of life by developing not only capable students, but principled young leaders.
Participants are introduced to the same leadership framework that guides every program within the Institute. Through meaningful discussion, practical experiences, mentorship, and service, they begin developing the habits, knowledge, and confidence required to lead with purpose throughout their lives.
The program is built upon the Institute's guiding conviction:
Fundamentum omnis civitatis est educatio iuventutis eius. "The foundation of every state is the education of its youth."
Every lesson is designed to prepare students not only for future careers, but for lives of service, stewardship, and responsible leadership.
YR1 - Private Sector
Curriculum
Year One introduces students to the principles of leadership through the lens of the private sector. Participants explore entrepreneurship, business, innovation, communication, financial literacy, and organizational leadership while developing the character and personal discipline necessary to become effective leaders.
Students learn that successful organizations are built by people who combine vision with integrity, innovation with responsibility, and ambition with service.
Learning Outcomes: By the conclusion of Year One, participants will be able to:
Understand the foundational principles of leadership and character.
Identify their personal strengths, values, and leadership style.
Demonstrate effective communication and public speaking skills.
Understand the role of entrepreneurship and free enterprise in strengthening communities.
Develop basic financial literacy and responsible decision-making skills.
Work effectively within diverse teams.
Practice ethical leadership and accountability.
Build confidence through presentations, discussions, and leadership projects.
Develop professional habits, goal-setting strategies, and personal responsibility.
Create a personal leadership development plan.
YR2 - Public Sector
Year Two expands students' understanding of leadership by introducing the principles of constitutional government, civic engagement, nonprofit leadership, public policy, and community service.
Students explore how leadership extends beyond business into every institution that shapes society. Through interaction with elected officials, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and public institutions, participants gain a deeper appreciation for responsible citizenship and servant leadership.
The goal is to inspire students to become informed, engaged, and principled leaders who contribute positively to their communities throughout their lives.
Learning Outcomes: By the conclusion of Year Two, participants will be able to:
Explain the foundational principles of the United States Constitution and representative government.
Understand the roles of local, state, and federal government.
Recognize how business, government, and nonprofit organizations work together to serve communities.
Demonstrate civic responsibility through meaningful community engagement.
Analyze public issues using critical thinking and respectful dialogue.
Develop servant leadership through volunteerism and community service.
Collaborate with peers to solve real-world challenges.
Communicate ideas confidently before public audiences.
Complete a community leadership project addressing a local need.
Develop a lifelong commitment to leadership, service, and responsible citizenship.
Graduate Outcomes
Graduates of the Emerging Leaders program will:
